Several weeks ago, I had the pleasure of attending The Body Shop Drops of Youth Bouncing Sleeping Mask Media Launch. It translates to new experiences and I am always up for experimenting with new, innovative beauty products.

The highlight of the event will have to be the opportunity to meet and speak to Dr Terry Loong, a global skincare expert with a deep understanding of different skin types. Hormonal disruption is her specialty, which coincides with my primary focus with regards to skincare so it was easy for me to get absorbed in her presentation. She shared that modern life makes it exceptionally difficult for women to maintain healthy, beautiful skin and balanced lifestyles in our fast-paced societies. In the attention-grabbing presentation, it states that as we sleep, the repair process occurs. Old skin cells shed, environmental free radical damage is removed and new cells are encouraged to the surface of the skin. A good night’s sleep boosts melatonin, a powerful anti-oxidant which helps fight age-spots and wrinkles. Growth hormones which boost the skin’s collagen, elasticity and firmness are generated during sleep.

However, our hectic schedules often demands shortened rest, depriving our skin of the necessary length to repair and replenish. Hence, she recommends the new Drops of Youth™ Bouncy Sleeping Mask. Paired with other skincare products, the unique formula sinks in for deep conditioning, pumping up our skin’s ability to complete the repairing process within a constrained time. In the morning, one’s skin feels smooth, hydrated and plumped.

Personally, compared to other sleeping masks of mine, this one has a memory shape texture with the densest feeling when applied on my skin. It feels exceptionally cooling and sits well on the skin at night. True to Dr Terry’s words, I woke up to softer, bouncier, fresher-looking complexion. I have to admit that it also took me longer than usual to wash it off as the formula is thicker. The environmental conscious self in me felt as if I wasted a lot of water haha.

Besides the sleeping mask, The Body Shop generously included other products in the Drops of Youth range for my package. I recommend trying the Concentrate (Serum, 30ml, S$59.90) and Eye Concentrate (10ml, S$49.90) if you are shopping around for suitable skincare.

The secret behind their youth-enhancing series is Edelweiss plant stem cells. This hardy flower thrives in the harshest conditions high in the Alps. Body Shop has carefully and sustainably extract the Edelweiss stem cells, harnessing their powerful resilience, to deliver potent skin cell renewing properties.

The Drops of Youth™ Concentrate infused with plant stem cells is delicate enough to be used even around the eyes and helps to enhance surface skin condition, leaving it looking smoother, fresher and healthier. (I really like) Its thin, non-sticky texture allows the serum to be absorbed quickly into my skin, a major plus point.

The Drops of Youth™ Eye Concentrate is a light-weight eye contour lotion targeted at reducing the appearance of fine lines around the eyes.
It has a metal rollerball applicator which makes application feel smooth, easy and extremely comfortable. It has a slight tightening effect albeit temporary and is fragrance free. Again, I favour this design of eye products as I’m ensured a clean application upon each swipe.

My routine for this night regime is to start off with the Drops of Youth™ Concentrate, and then the Drops of Youth™ Eye Concentrate before massaging the Drops of Youth™ Bouncy Sleeping Mask into my skin to stimulate my lymphatic system, encouraging circulation and better absorption of the mask.

I would massage the area above brows, under my eyes , across my cheeks and neck in an upward motion, and occasionally my temples to help relax my mind and get me ready for bed! I have to say these products deserves a thumbs-up for aiding my sleep since I’ve started.

The Body Shop Drops of Youth™ Bouncy Sleeping Mask will be available in-stores from 8 January 2015, at S$44.90.

I hope you lovelies will join me on this new regime! Thank you for reading and have a great week ahead!

GOODBYE 2014, HELLO 2015

2014 is officially over. And I can't say I miss it.

The beginning of 2014 has been an absolute high, and then within a blink of an eye, I was thrown into an abyss of shame and helplessness. Like quicksand that almost swallowed me alive, I thought I'd never see the light of day again. Yet despite all that has happened, a few good things did come out of it. After being pulled out of quicksand, I experienced a gasp of fresh air, though at first groggy and disoriented, I gradually found my footing again but not without help from the most unlikely persons. Moving on, the year was definitely one of many struggles and setbacks.

I want to specially thank all the angels who saw me through the darkest period of my life. My family for loving me regardless and for believing in me when I had given up all hope. M who supported and stood by me at my weakest and my cousin who helped fight my inner demons with me, for choosing to believe in me and help build back my once shattered confidence.

I have learnt more about myself in the past 6 months than in the last 27 years of my life. I guess it's through these trials and tribulations that we learn to grow up, stand on our feet and fight for the things we believe in.

Most importantly, I learnt to have faith in things we cannot see and may not always have control over. In God, for He will always be there to shelter me, guide me and steer me towards the way.

I hope in 2015, I will learn to be wiser, to be more patient and learn to accept that things may not always go my way but will still turn out okay. To have more grit, self-love and exercise more self-restrain.

We all have a fear for the unknown but like Charles F. Glassman puts it, “fear and anxiety many times indicates that we are moving in a positive direction, out of the safe confines of our comfort zone, and in the direction of our true purpose.”

I wish you all a Happy 2015 ahead and may you find courage, love and light to take you to the places you wanna be.

On a sidenote, I've written my first beauty article for GetKlaritya beauty and wellness app on both web & mobile that allows you to luxuriate in some much-needed ‘me-time’ anytime, anywhere. If you are still perplexed over what to get for loved ones this Christmas or you just don't have the time till the very last minute, then Escentials is definitely the place to go.

Why Escentials you might think? Well, not only are you taking a beauty trip into the most exciting store in town, you'll also find personalised services such as fragrance profiling and discover a spellbinding selection of the finest beauty products from around the world.

It's my go-to place when I need a gift to impress and here are my favourite picks from this year's collections.

This luxurious Petite Chérie Christmas Set (S$235) from Annick Goutal would make an excellent gift for the ultimate princess, perfect for girls who like sweet, fruity scents made for Spring time!

Another favourite Spring/Summer fragrance is the Christmas Set Orange Sanguine from Atelier Cologne and best of all, it includes a 200ml and another travel-size 30ml EDP, plus a shower gel, body lotion and leather case, all for just $S340. It can’t get any better than this!

From the creator of one of the most iconic beauty products of all time, YSL’s Touche Eclat comes a true beauty cult classic - Coffret BAUME DE ROSE Flaconette. This limited edition set takes the winning Baume de Rose formula and steps it up a notch with an added hit of colour for perfect party lips.

The Extra Pur (SOLD OUT, sorry!) is a premium gift designed and packaged in a colourful, qualitative cardboard material box that can be kept after use. I love such gifts because it spoils the receiver with the selection of soaps! This way, they can explore different fragrances and narrow down their favourites the next time they shop for themselves.

Diptyque candles are amongst the best sellers every Christmas and this year is no different. I love the smell of it, the looks of it burning in the corner of my room and especially the way it makes me feel when I cosy up in bed with a cuppa milo on a rainy stay home evening. This Holiday Season Candle Set is already sold out but, there's still a plethora of amazing scents to choose from at the Escentials store!

At Escential's you'll find Penhaligon's, an unusual and magical range of luxuries with an incredibly rich heritage. The scents are distinct and whimsical, created for the discerning eccentrics of today.

This Gentlemen's Collection Gift Set (SS90) contains 5ml of Blenheim Bouquet, Juniper Sling, Bayolea, Sartorial and Opus 1870. Don't you just love the limited edition tin?

The best-selling feminine fragrance, Artemisia, is available in this charming Christmas set. The Artemisia Fragrance Collection (S$260) contains one 100ml Artemisia EDP and one 300ml Shower Gel.

If you are looking are bath and bodycare products, may I suggest REN? A four piece gift (S$38) which contains 50ml travel sizes of their best-selling Moroccan Rose range and their new scent for 2014, uplifting Revivo Tonic.

So I hope this guide alleviated some of your headache and gives you some options when you do your last minute shopping tomorrow! Also, check out the awfully cute Mina Kwon Displays when you enter the Escentials flagship store at Paragon this Christmas!

Happy shopping!

I can't believe how fast December is flying by, in just 10 days, Christmas will be here and I'm barely ready for it! Are you feeling the same way?

One of the hardest things to do before Christmas is to select the right gift for the right person. You may think that it's an easy feat if you know the person well but if you do, you've probably gotten them the usual gifts you do on their birthdays, anniversaries, special occasions for as long as you've known them! They are probably expecting something a little different this year.

In fact, I think buying a gift for an acquaintance is much easier because then, it opens up more to more options and you won't have such a hard time scouring for THE perfect gift. But if all fails, at least you have an excuse of not knowing them very well, so they will forgive you! However, I always feel it's better to do a little sussing out on what the person likes before going in blind and buying something that the person would not like or use.

So where better to go, then to one of my favourite places to shop - Crabtree & Evelyn, they have a massive gift collection that comprises of Body Products, Festive Foods, Home Fragrances and more recently, Skincare!

As you may know, Crabtree & Evelyn is famous for their signature fragrance, Evelyn Rose, which features a heart of uniquely scented Evelyn Rose petals and peach nectar, surrounded by an elegant jasmine and violet accord with accents of bergamot and sensuous amber that can never go wrong with the ladies!

However, in the light of Christmas, Crabtree & Evelyn has re-released their classic range, Noël and also created a new and enchanting fragrance, HollyBerry that would sure to delight all your senses! Not only are they  limited editions, they also come in the most beautiful Christmas designs. Time to share the joy and spread the love! :)

A perennial favourite, Noël is an irresistible blend of fresh balsams, persimmon and citrus fused with spicy star anise, clove and nutmeg. The classic Crabtree & Evelyn home fragrance is warming and welcoming.

An enchanting fragrance inspired by crimson berries and fresh, green leaves, this fruity and spicy fragrance captures the magic of the winter season with notes of red currant, coriander, fig, nutmeg and precious frankincense.

And there's more..

These Hand Therapy Trio Tin Sets make THE perfect gift for girlfriends, colleagues and mothers! I picked out one each for my Mom and my Godmom and they adore it! Not only are they ultra-moisturing, they are also compact and they like the new tube which allows for easier dispensing of the lotion.
One thing I regretted leaving the store without was this!! I had been eyeing this treasure since I walked in because it's really worth it! 12 tubes for only S$83 is a real bargain!

During Christmas season is the only time where brands would come out with many functional and amazing looking travel cases! Don't these look chic?

Crabtree & Evelyn also retails these vintage-looking Vanity Cases that make for great portable storage for your make-up, accessories and whatever you can think of!

Whether the receiver is a male or a female, a cookie lover or tea addict, you are bound to find something that will suit their tastebuds! A plethora of fine foods in different assortments at your choosing!

Hopefully you'll be find the right gifts or even pick out something for yourself at Crabtree & Evelyn this festive season! Happy Holidays! :)

Early this Christmas, myself and four other girlfriends were invited down to Orchard Hotel Singapore to catch their falling snow in action – surrounding their one storey Life-sized Christmas Glass House standing 5m tall and 4m long in the middle of the lobby. It was a great opportunity for us girls to catch up while enveloping ourselves in the festive spirit indulging in an array of dishes, nibbling on cookies and chocolates and sipping on champagne.

I enjoyed trying most of their Christmas Goodies and my favourite ones were the traditional Fruit Cake,   Chocolates, Xmas Cookies and the unusual Plum Pudding!

If you are absolutely into the Christmas-themed buffets, then head on down to Orchard Café as Executive Chef Andy demonstrates his culinary artistry with an array of dishes created for this festive feasting! Indulge in Live Boston Lobsters, King Crab Legs, Roast Turkey, Champagne Ham with Honey in Onion Raisin Sauce, Paella, Goose with Orange Sauce, Teppanyaki of Seared Foie Gras with Hokkaido Scallops, Grilled Premium Beef Tenderloin with Béarnaise Sauce… the list goes on rotational basis!

Then sweeten up your meal with Gingerbread Crème Brulee, Pandan Coconut Macarons, Jackfruit Pannacotta, Christmas Pudding with Brandy Sauce, as well as our two new log cake creations this year – Coconut & Pandan Log Cake and “Chocolate Delice” Forest Berries, Biscuit & Caramelised Crispies!

Happy Holidays!

So recently, I had been extended an invitation to Spa Detour, a new generation spa conceived and launched by DUCK and HiPPO, Singapore's original DUCKtours and topless tour bus operator. It may seem unusual that these ‘non-spa’ people are taking a detour from touring activities to give the leisure spa a new spin but, by doing so, they hope to change the game by redefining what a spa can be. No more ‘scary’ packages, no pressure selling. It was this novel concept and the focus on providing busy urbanites with a conducive fashion-forward space for a ‘hide-out’ or ‘breakaway’ that got me booking my first appointment with them. They were also kind enough to extend the invitation to my cousin who accompanied me to the spa.

Spa Detour is located at Suntec, which is a prime area and easily accessible via the MRT. When we arrived, we were greeted by the polite staff who introduced the place to us and brought us around to explore all the different treatment areas. Every door takes you to another realm, another time… such as facial in an old warehouse, sleep spa in a rabbit hole, manicure in a theatre or massage in a barn (which got us laughing hysterically).
Expect the unexpected.

We took our picks and were each treated to a relaxing aromatherapy massage with a blend of Lavender essential oils in the surreal rainforest room. As she started kneading my upper back, I could hear and feel my bones popping, a sign that my pressure points were ‘unlocked’. It felt so liberating and wasn’t at all painful. It only felt more sensitive when she turned me over and massaged my tummy and she  had put too much pressure. However, she was receptive and adjust he strength when I told her to put less pressure. The treatment lasted an hour but we wouldn’t have mind if it went on longer.

Our experience with Spa Detour didn’t stop there. After a quick bath, we tidied up and left the room. We were swiftly greeted at the door by Amp. By the way, my cousin was full of praise for Amp’s skills, she led us to the lounge and treated us to some cakes and water where we spent a good hour chatting and exploring the interesting lounge that seemed to clash yet seem to complement the rest of quirkiness of the decoration theme.
Overall, the much needed massage was soothing and our experience was gratifying. I’ll say that it’s definitely worth the occasional splurge due to the exquisite pricing.

Spa Detour is currently running a 1-for-1 promotion off all spa treatments for my readers, so should you require a much needed massage or facial anytime soon, feel free to call their hotline and redeem this offer by quoting ‘B141’. Perhaps I’ll bump into you munchkins on my next visit! :)
