Just like most people, I get breakouts and blotchy skin every now and then, especially when I don't take good care of my skin. December and January were extremely hectic months for me which meant that I slept at ungodly hours and was severely sleep deprived.
And because I was burnt from work and didn't get sufficient beauty sleep for an extended period of time, I started developing mega-huge pimples and whiteheads and it was just excruciating to have and to wake up to in the mornings.
My usual pimple treatment hadn't been as effective and fast-acting as it used to be, probably cos' my body has grown immune to it over the years, hence, I decided to go on a hunt to look for alternatives to cure my overly-inflamed papules.
I am a oily/combination skin type and I also have easily blocked skin (blackheads/whiteheads), and I'm very prone to acne if I don't take extra care of my skin.
These are some of the reasons that cause me to breakout:
1. Late nights*
3. Humid Weather
4. Unsuitable skincare/makeup products
Yup, you'd have guessed by now that my number 1 enemy is myself! Normally, if I sleep before 12am, my complexion will look more glowy and supple in the mornings. If I don't, I'll find myself with an eyesore of a pimple waiting to erupt in a few days/weeks.
But if I DID turn in bed early like I should've, I wouldn't need to resort to buying acne products and spending money that I could otherwise have saved. But, we don't always have the luxury of time and time is the one thing we'd all pay to have, don't we?
Back to the issue at hand.. During this period, I managed to find 2 products that really helped to relieve my acne. Of cos', your skincare routine, eating and sleeping habits play a big part in aiding your recovery process but keep in mind that I've been using these products WHILE I was sleeping little hours and working late into the night.
Prior to this, I was using the Avene Spot Treatment that has almost always help to ease my inflamed pimples, though it takes about 3-5days of application before I see results. It used to be more effective and I'll notice my pimples going down after 2 days but I guess my body has grown immune to it.
This Spot Treatment has a gel texture and feels super calming when you apply it on the annoying little blighters. I normally use this in the evening or when I don't have makeup on as the formula is slightly dense and doesn't sit well under my makeup.
BTW, I have known friends and relatives who use this brand religiously (including myself) but there's a handful who have an allergic reaction to a particular ingredient in Avene's formula and therefore, isn't suitable for their whole skincare range entirely. So, just a word of caution, always test the products at the counter or ask for samples from their sales attendants and try them at home before deciding whether you should purchase them.

ATORREGE AD+ - ACNE SPOTS
This is a new product that I came across while searching for an acne treatment at Watsons Parkway. My mom was browsing through some hair products and the attendant serving her saw me holding another product (below) and asked if I wanted to try her range of skincare products to treat my pimples.
I've never heard of Atorrege AD+ and I was slightly overwhelmed by the price when I saw how tiny this bottle was! However, you know when you're facing an apocalyptic zit invasion, one can get a little hasty and desperate so I bought it! Hahaha, but I am sure glad I did!
I had two nodules (one on my chin and the other on my neck) in December, these are painful bumps under the skin that take some time to go away and can create scarring so I've used this spot treatment specifically for these 2 blistering monsters.
This treatment doesn't allow them to ferment and develop into full-blown raging yellow-headed ogres like some other treatments do which may exacerbate the condition of my acne. Upon application, my nodules started to subside and fade away in a matter of days.
I love that it comes in a clinical-looking glass bottle and dropper which means the product won't get contaminated easily when you dispense it. Also, the serum-like essence absorbs into the skin quickly and effortlessly and doesn't sting or make me feel like I have anything on at all which makes putting makeup on less of a chore.
My only proviso is to use this as sparingly as you can as a tiny drop is more than sufficient to cover any spots or pimples.
I also did some research and learnt that this skincare range from Japan has been formulated without any artificial colors, artificial flavors, chemical preservatives, surfactants and is paraben-free (Yay! Less toxins in our body!)
ATTOREGE AD+'s range of products are specifically targeted at sensitive skin which makes it extra suitable for people with severe skin conditions and acne. I am definitely going to attempt more of their other products once I finish products from my current skincare routine. Though it's a real bummer that the Japanese aren't well-versed in articulating their products, the products can only speak for themselves after you've used them. So it makes it really difficult for me to comprehend the japanese descriptions on the packaging and look for what's really suitable for me.
Overall, I still give this a 9/10 because it's very effective at targeting spots and massive pimples and it smells amazing!

LA ROCHE-POSAY - EFFACLAR DUO
The next inductee in my current acne treatment routine is the La Roche-Posay Effaclar Duo. This French pharmacie skincare brand has been on my radar for a really long time, but since I've been using Avene, also another French brand, I haven't had the chance to explore this range from La Roche-Posay. I heard about this product from one of Tanya's Burr's recent videos in December and decided to try it out.
It has a non-oily, water-gel consistency and goes on easily into my skin. It feels extremely light and soothing.
This product is said to be a Spot Treatment, a Moisturiser and a Pore Refiner that helps to purify your pores and reduce skin imperfections while hydrating your skin.
I replaced this product with my standard moisturiser and after just 3 days, my overall complexion became clearer and smoother.
I love that this is a 3-in-1 which makes it so convenient and hassle-free, I don't have to waste time piling on each skincare product and I actually prefer using less skincare products on my skin, especially when my face is inflamed and clogged, so this is perfect!
Overall, I give this product an 8/10 because I find it very effective in a short span of time and it has a gel-like texture which is especially suitable for my oily-combination skin type!

*My skin condition (without makeup) after using Attorege AD+ Acne Spots & La Roche-Posay Effaclar Duo. (pardon the different light conditions!)
Nowadays, I would use cleanse and tone my face before applying the Attorege AD+ Acne Spots on specific spots, let dry and then apply the La Roche-Posay Effaclar Duo to my entire face. I refrain from piling on other products and keep it as gentle and simple as possible.
Also, all the products mentioned above are fragrance and paraben-free which is an added bonus! I like that they are extremely gentle and effective and manageable for my pocket, well wit the exception of the Attorege AD+ Acne Spots I suppose T_T
Nonetheless, it's still exceptionally important to maintain healthy eating and sleeping habits.
Besides the aid of skincare products and health supplements, my 3 Golden Rules to having a more radiant and youthful complexion are:
1. Sleeping early! ( = BED before 1130pm!!)
2. Drink at 2 litres of water everyday (boiled, not distilled water. Preferably warm, avoid iced water as it gives you patchy skin.)
3. BE HAPPY! (So important to keep a healthy and positive state of mind and attitude always! Keeps you looking and feeling young ❤)
Hope you found these suggestions useful, if all else fails, turn to a dermatologist for help! Oh and never pick your pimples!
Okay that's all I have today, good luck and I'll be back with a new haul video soon! :)
